Dental X-rays are safe and allow the dentist to see areas of your child’s teeth, gums, and jaw that cannot be seen during a visual examination alone. They are an essential part of preventive dental care and help us detect problems early—often before they become painful or visible.

xrays
X-rays allow our pediatric dentists to:

  • Detect cavities between teeth that cannot be seen during an exam.
  • Monitor the growth and development of permanent teeth.
  • Identify missing, extra, or impacted teeth.
  • Evaluate the health of the tooth roots and surrounding bone.
  • Detect infections, abscesses, cysts, or other conditions.
  • Help determine the best treatment plan for your child’s oral health.

Finding dental problems early often means treatment is simpler, less invasive, and more comfortable for your child.

Are X-rays considered safe for children?
Yes. Modern digital dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation and are considered safe for children.
Our office also uses protective measures and current technology to further minimize radiation exposure.

How often will my child need X-rays?
The frequency of X-rays depends on your child’s age, risk for cavities, oral health history, and stage of dental development. Some children may need X-rays more often than others, while children with a low risk of cavities may need them less frequently. The dentist will recommend X-rays only when they are appropriate for your child’s individual needs.
