Stainless Steel Crowns
A stainless steel crown is a durable, protective cap that fits over your child’s tooth to restore its shape, strength, and function after it has been damaged by a large cavity, fracture, or after certain procedures such as a pulpotomy (baby root canal). Because baby teeth have thinner enamel than adult teeth, large fillings may not provide enough support. A stainless steel crown covers the entire tooth, helping protect it from breaking or developing additional decay until it naturally falls out.

Why is it important to repair a primary (baby) tooth?
Although baby teeth are temporary, they play a very important role in your child’s oral health and development. They support comfortable chewing and clear speech while reserving the room permanent teeth need to emerge in the proper place. When decay or infection causes a baby tooth to be lost prematurely, the neighboring teeth may begin moving into the open area, potentially leading to crowding, bite problems, and the need for orthodontic treatment later. Restoring the tooth with a stainless steel crown allows it to remain healthy and functional until it is naturally ready to fall out.
