The Facts About Gum Disease in Children

Posted .

You probably know that gum disease is actually a serious problem that you should have addressed as quickly as possible, but did you know that there are actually a few rumors that are commonly accepted as facts. For example, did you know that children are as vulnerable to gum disease as you are?

As you probably know, one thing you’ll need to do to help your child avoid gum disease is to help them brush their teeth. Sadly, children may not always enjoy brushing, which can make protecting their teeth far more difficult. To help your child avoid these issues, please help them brush and floss until they’re old enough to do so on their own. Once they’re able to brush on their own, you may need to monitor them until they start to brush thoroughly.

Sadly, gum disease can actually lead to a number of problems in adults or children. You see, if your child has gum disease, they could have to cope with bad breath. Similarly, your child could lose the bone structure that holds their teeth in place. If this happens, your child could suffer from shifting teeth or could even lose their teeth prematurely. Similarly, gum disease can cause sensitive teeth.

Luckily, there are a number of things we might be able to do to help your child avoid gum disease. For instance, brushing and flossing can prevent gum disease, but could also reverse it.
